With a date set for his first international trip, Weslen Kayan Viera, 22, is preparing for an exchange program in Bucharest, Romania. Student of the current edition of the Soul Bilíngue program, he was awarded a two-week scholarship at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. The scholarship is part of the international program that discusses topics related to financial services and will start on August 14th.

The student was born in Teresina, Piauí, where he lives now, and this experience will be his first international trip. Son of a housewife, Núbia Lafaiete Vieira, and a general assistant, Wilson dos Santos Vieira, Weslen graduated in Accounting at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). He was the first in his family to graduate from a federal university.

“I am very excited about my first international trip. I've already contacted some people from other countries who are also going, and every day the anxiety grows,” says Weslen.

The summer scholarship selection process in the Romanian university had over 3,000 applicants, and Weslen was among the 50 students selected. The two-week program will feature activities with students from different countries brainstorming on the theme Fintech: Challenges for Financial Services.

English at Soul Bilíngue

To get the scholarship, Weslen says that studying at the Soul Bilíngue program helped him when applying. The entire selection process for the program was in English, from documentation to essays.

“The activities proposed by Soul Bilíngue were essential for filling out the application form and writing the essays. The mentoring sessions were crucial to improve my English and my mentor, Larissa Caramel, helped me practice speaking during our meetings,” explains the student.

Fundraiser for the flight ticket

Weslen's scholarship covers the course, accommodation, food, road trips, and all expenses related to the program during the two weeks. However, the student must buy the return ticket from Brazil to Romania. He is mobilizing people to help him buy it. It is possible to support Weslen via bank transfers or PIX to the email weslenfreitas.wk@gmail.com.
